Grandma's Sugar Cookie Recipe

I always look forward to my Grandma's sugar cookies every Christmas. Some of my favorite memories involve being with my mom and grandma on cold frigid days learning how to make her famous cookies. The aroma of the sweet cookies baking in the oven filled the house. Our hearts were filled with the anticipation of decorating those sugary morels of goodness.

I tried not to eat them all before Christmas day but the temptation was so strong because of how good and sweet they were. My Dad always ate half of them right away anyway so we usually made a double batch. 

The recipe to those delicious cookies:

3/4 cup butter

1/4 cup butter flavored crisco

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp cream of tarter 

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 3/4 cups of flour 

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp almond

Cream butter, crisco, and sugar. Add eggs, and beat until creamy. Mix flour, baking soda, cream of tarter, and salt together. Slowly add dry mixture to wet mixture. Add vanilla before all of your flour is added to your wet mixture. Chill dough. When dough is cold, roll out and cut out cookies. 

Bake at 350 degrees for 6-12 min. 

Makes about 2 dozen cookies. 

The frosting: 

3 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla

2 tsp light corn syrup

4 Tbs of warm water 

Mix all together. This should be thick, if it is too thick add 1/2 tablespoon of warm water until desired consistency.

Decorate and enjoy those sweet delicious cookies!
